Transitioning from a Naval Officer to an AI Business Consultant: My Experience Balancing Multiple Roles

I have a diverse background in the military, IT, and AI. I am currently studying the program ’AI Business Consultant’ at Hyper Island, where I’m trying to learn the ins- and outs of AI and machine learning. In this blog post, I want to share my experiences transitioning from a naval officer to an AI business consultant while also working at Viaplay Group.

The skills and experiences that have prepared me for both my military and AI careers

As a naval officer, I gained a number of valuable skills and experiences that have been applicable to my AI studies. These include leadership, problem-solving, and communication. My time in the military also taught me how to work efficiently under pressure and how to handle complex tasks with a team. In addition to my military training, I have also received education in AI through my studies at Hyper Island. Here, I learned about techniques for training and evaluating machine learning models, and how to communicate effectively with stakeholders about AI. During my free time I have been learning how to code in python and It’s really enjoyable. Using AWS services and Python I’ve been able to set up daily news E-mails tailored to what i’m interested in, summarize the news articles and extract sentiment in order to keep tabs on the topics i’m most interested in. I’ve even been able to make my part-time job more efficient using python!

Diving in -30°C is definitely one of the things I miss

My background in the military has given me a unique perspective on the potential applications of AI. I have seen firsthand how technology can be used to improve military operations, and I am excited to explore the ways in which AI can continue to make a positive impact in this field.

The challenges and rewards of balancing multiple roles

:Balancing multiple roles as a naval officer, AI student, and Viaplay employee has been incredibly rewarding. One of the main challenges I have faced is managing my time effectively. I’ve had to carefully prioritize my responsibilities and make sure I was giving each role the attention it needed.

Despite the challenges, there have been many rewards to taking on multiple roles. I have had the opportunity to learn new skills and gain diverse experiences that have helped me grow both personally and professionally. I have also enjoyed the chance to work with a variety of people from different backgrounds and industries.

My experiences transitioning from a naval officer to an AI business consultant while working extra at Viaplay have been challenging, but also incredibly rewarding. I have gained valuable skills and experiences that have prepared me for a diverse range of responsibilities, and I am excited about the opportunities that the AI industry has to offer. I am hopeful about the positive impact that AI can have in the world, and I am eager to continue learning and growing as an AI business consultant.
